Our Creative Director, Mathilde Delatte, has been blessed to work in multiple design cities of the world. From Paris to Berlin to London and now Melbourne – each city taught her unique design influences, which are integrated into the Belleville Studio client processes. Here are the top 3 cultural influences.
1. PARIS: THE ARTFUL ATTENTION TO DETAIL
Sophistication is at the heart of Parisian culture and is also at the heart of what Belleville does. The impeccable attention to detail that Mathilde acquired in Paris facilitated a genuine appreciation for precision and craftsmanship in design.
"High-end and sophisticated design is important to us", said Mathilde. "We're proud to work with our team of specialists and contractors in the design space, who understand that every line, letter or shape speaks volumes and leaves an impression".
Working in Paris offers a richness and availability of art and culture that becomes a constant source of inspiration. Exhibitions, museums, and the vibrancy of life provide a wellspring of creativity.
"It's one aspect that I've taken away, and I cultivate those same sources of inspiration here in Melbourne," Mathilde said.
Critical thinking is another skill that Parisian designers embody. "It's not just about designing; it's about making a statement, being conscious of the work we undertake, and understanding the impact it has on the world," Mathilde said. "That's why at Belleville, we're not just crafting designs; we're creating stories that matter."
2. THE LONDON LESSON: CROSS-CULTURAL COLLABORATION
Being an international hub, London taught Mathilde to embrace diverse ideas and tastes with an open mind. It was about taking risks, pushing creative boundaries and building confidence.
London also taught her to hone brand strategy skills and consider the holistic brand experience.
"Developing brand pillars, understanding the 'why' behind a business, and effectively differentiating brands from their competitors has helped me shape a cohesive and powerful process for Belleville Studio's clients," said Mathilde. "We're not just designing; we're crafting experiences that embrace the senses with warmth, tone, and ambience."
3. BERLIN AESTHETICS & MELBOURNIAN FLAIR
In 2007, Mathilde was lucky to intern at an ad agency in Berlin after her studies at the HGB (Academy of Visual Arts) in Leipzig in Typography.
"I learnt so much about the principles of typography and typeface design–and how this impacts graphic design. This helped me fine-tune my attention to detail, and as I gained more experience, I could break the rules with creativity."
Now living in Australia and working from her Collingwood studio (Melbourne-city’s creative hub), she is proud to have cultivated a network of local creatives for Belleville Studio–and an impressive international client list.
"Collaboration and shared references enrich our creative process. We're connecting the dots with a diverse range of creative minds who deeply understand our mission and vision for our clients," Mathilde said.
At Belleville Studio, we offer unique and timeless design solutions that resonate with the Australian market. We're not just designing; we're co-creating with our clients, nurturing a warm and mutually respectful partnership.
